As part of LAUSD’s ongoing efforts to master plan all existing campuses, our team conducted a site analysis and completed a master plan for Reed Middle School. Reed Middle School is located on a 13.3 acre site in the San Fernando Valley. The campus is sited in a single-family residential neighborhood just south of the 101 freeway and a few blocks west of the 170 freeway.
The campus is presently in serviceable condition and is frequently used by the film industry as a production site. However, in order to meet current agency requirements and enhance academic standards, the buildings and building systems are in need of modernization.
After analyzing existing conditions and site operational sequences, we have outlined the challenges the campus is currently facing and provided potential solutions to improve the efficiency and usability of the campus in order to provide students with a productive learning environment. Our vision for the campus was developed with feedback from the school district and community stakeholders. The resulting Master Plan outlines potential projects that will be prioritized and developed in phases by a design-build team.
