The Electrical Training Trust (ETT) bought a 141,000 square foot light industrial warehouse facility in the City of Commerce, California, and engaged the firm to redesign the three building complex into a training facility and office accommodations. The program included 36 classrooms, seven large laboratories, unique support activity spaces for students and staff, a large high-bay space dedicated to conduit bending and traffic signal wiring, and 25,000 square feet of quality office space for three distinct administrative groups. The thoughtful reuse of existing quality structures and systems and the opportunistic juxtaposition of finished, smaller scale offices and academic spaces comingled with large, raw industrial laboratory and storage spaces yielded an exciting, dynamic yet cost-effective design.
