Fremont High School was a priority project for the Los Angeles Unified School District in the master planning of all school campuses. The campus had experienced unplanned growth, overcrowding, and a cluttered campus. With the implementation of a new neighboring campus that would relieve the enrollment pressures, the master plan sought to return the campus to a more manageable size and address long-term goals for facilities to support an evolving 21st century educational model. Programming for Fremont High School included a new cafeteria replacing portable buildings; a new library, classroom and art and music building; a system of small additions to develop a common architectural language; rehabilitation of an existing three-story classroom building; improving mechanical systems; the relocation of administrative facilities, reconfigured parking, and improved entry sequence and school identity.
