San Fernando High School Teen Health Center
Los Angeles County/Los Angeles Unified School District
San Fernando, California
The San Fernando High School Teen Health Center project represents collaboration between Los Angeles Unified School District and the County of Los Angeles to establish an integrated school health center on the school’s campus. This school-based center provides sports and well child physicals, chronic disease care (e.g., asthma management), immunizations, mental health counseling, family planning, pregnancy prevention, health education, case management, and referral to specialty care services to San Fernando High School, Mission Continuation School, and McAlister School students and their families.
NAC Architecture worked on this design-build project with Abbott Construction. The 5,000-square-foot facility includes four medical and two dental examination rooms, four counseling offices, business offices, an equipment sterilization room, dispensary, laboratory, a nurses’ station, and a conference room. The NAC Architecture team faced a number of challenges on this project. The design was subject to full dual agency review by the County of Los Angeles and the DSA as well as a strict budget and deadline for completion. In order to overcome any foreseeable roadblocks, key members of our team attended every scheduled meeting and ensured that all questions and problems were resolved to the specifications of each agency. The Los Angeles County approval process was streamlined with the help of Abbott Construction’s on site presence. Additionally, there was a last minute need to mitigate methane gas on site which led to quick actions on the part of NAC Architecture and our subconsultants in order to receive timely project approvals.
