The Evergreen State College Student Wellness Services Center is a walk-in, inclusive, no-stigma health resource hub and wellness facility for students and staff. The Center offers a broad range of immediate and preventive care services. Students visit the facility for check-ups, counseling, and ongoing wellness education. The design of the space works in tandem with progressive programming by providing an environment that supports wellness.
The design team used natural wood, terrazzo, and glass to help provide a connection to the natural environment. The glass and wood elements tie the patients and providers to nature and aid in the holistic healing process. Light, natural tones with soft green accents throughout create a spa-like feel. The Center has private consultation space and open areas for learning and group work. Circulation and work areas were also strategically planned. Staff offices and hallways are on the exterior so that everyone has access to the outdoor views. The casual design helps alleviate any stigma associated with seeking care or counseling. Exam and counseling areas are also easy to find and easily accessible. The design intent was to create a more soothing environment where everyone could feel safe no matter the circumstance.
To provide a safe, comfortable, and healthy environment, the design team referred to WELL building standards throughout this project.
